Ghost Oreo Balls

After two tries, I successfully made adorable and scrumptious ghoul Oreo balls. It really is a super easy recipe, I just made the bad choice in not buying actual melting chocolate...so take my advice and just buy the darn chocolate meant for melting!

What you need:

1 Package of Oreo's
1 Package of Cream Cheese (3oz)
Melting chocolate

What to do:

1. Crush up the oreos-I don't have a food processor, but that would be extremely helpful rather than having to do it by hand
2. Add the cream cheese and mix together with a blender until you get a mixture like the one below that you can make little balls out of

3. Use your hands to roll into balls and place on wax paper to put in your fridge

4. While the Oreo balls are chillin' in the fridge, begin to melt your chocolate on the stove on the lowest setting possible!
5. Dip your Oreo balls in the chocolate so that it's completely covered and place back on wax paper to dry
6. Once cooled, draw the cute little eyes and mouth on your ghosts
7. Enjoy!

My pumpkin ones didn't turn out as good as I hoped, maybe next time I'll roll them in orange sprinkles too.

But these guys did turn out and oh my, how cute are they?!

What Halloween treats are you guys making this year?

Recipe: Grandma Ople's Apple Pie

As a follow-up to my last post, I wanted to share the recipe my mother and I used to make apple pies from the apples we picked at Lewis Farm Market over the weekend. We found a recipe that seemed sweet and simple here!

Grandma Ople's Apple Pie

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 8 granny smith apples - peeled, cored, sliced (we used Macintosh)
  • 9 inch pie pan

Directions:

Peel, core, and slice up your apples. (We used my mom's apple-peeler-corer-slicer, which worked phenomenally)

Melt butter in a sauce pan. Stir in flour to form a paste. Add white sugar, brown sugar and water; bring to a boil. Reduce temperature, and simmer 5 minutes.

Meanwhile, place the bottom crust in your pan. Fill with apples, mounded slightly. Cover with a lattice work crust. Gently pour the sugar and butter liquid over the crust. Pour slowly so that it does not run off.

Bake 15 minutes at 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Reduce the temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes.

We decided to make one pie with Pillsbury dough, and one with homemade. We had so many apples, we wanted to make sure we used them up!

 Hope you enjoy. :)
