One Crazy Saturday

This past weekend was so much fun. Much like a majority of my weekends, it was packed with family gatherings and music-related events.
On Saturday, it was off to Muskegon to kick off the day by celebrating my great grandmother's 100th birthday! What a blessing to share in such a special day. I can't even imagine the things she's seen and experienced in her century of life. She's still in great health and high spirits. Her positivity and generosity is contagious, and I am very fortunate to have her in my life. I'm glad the whole family was able to come together and celebrate. Katelyn and I are extremely fortunate to have such a large and loving family.

To make the day even more special for our great grandmother, Steve sang her Happy Birthday and then played You are My Sunshine. She was singing along and smiling.
(How AMAZING is he, too?!)

After the birthday celebration, we all headed over to Grand Haven to celebrate the 1st birthday of Country 93.1 WMPA. They have been such huge supporters of Steve's journey through the Texaco Country Showdown, so it only made sense to go show our support for them.

They were broadcasting live at the barbecue, so Steve played some songs for the listeners in west Michigan.

Then it was back to Grand Rapids for a night at the Back Forty Saloon, again!

Bring on the 3-day weekend! Thank you, Labor Day!

This Week's Happenings

I can't seem to keep my days straight as of late. Whenever I have plans on weeknights, I feel like I lose all my bearings and am in dire need of a hardcore siesta. That being sad, it's been a pretty radical week so far. Tuesday I had my friend Whitney come to GR for Rock the Rapids since I got VIP tickets from work. It was great to be outdoors in the hot Michigan weather at the ballpark and enjoy some large beers while kicking back in the suite watching Brett Eldredge and Thompson Square.
Wednesday night Steve got into Michigan and had a gig at Louie's Bar on the west side. He was featured during their open mic, and our friends Tieka and Eric came out. Eric joined in playing some tunes.

I am ready to bring on the busy weekend ahead, and hopefully get some rest, since this week has been so crazy. But I must admit, everything is better when Steve is here.

St. Catharine's Rib Fest

On Monday, August 5th, Steve and his band in Canada played the Rotary Club's Rib Fest in St. Catharine, Ontario. It was the second rib fest I had attended in one week (as well as my second rib fest EVER).  I swear they have one every weekend in Canada.

I am willing to bet I wouldn't have enjoyed the experience as much if I were still a vegetarian. The grilled barbeque chicken was pretty much the tastiest thing ever.

Steve and the guys played two 45 minute sets and the crowd loved them. It was also great to see his friends and spend some time with them! They are so wonderful.

Steve played his grandmother's favorite song at the end of his set, and she stood up and started dancing along. It was the most precious thing.

Frederik Meijer Gardens

Last night I went to see the Kari Lynch Band play at the outdoor amphitheater at Frederik Meijer Gardens with great friends. I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful evening. The weather was PERFECT for the first time in weeks. It was so nice to sit in the lawn on a blanket and watch our talented friends play awesome music.

Texaco Country Showdown - Local Competition

Last night Steve and his band competed in the regional round of the Texaco Country Showdown in Muskegon.  The event was held at the Fricano Event Center on Muskegon Lake.  There were 7 local contestants and it was SO great to see some local talent compete for the title of the regional winner.

And first place went to.... The Steve Rivers Band!

So proud of these guys! I can't wait to see how they do at the State Competition in Bay City in two weeks!
