John Ball Park

This past weekend was supposed to be filled with live music, cowboy boots, overpriced beers, and too much sun for my skin to handle. It was supposed to be a weekend completely dedicated to a country music festival. Steve was even in town to attend the concerts with me. It ended up not being a music festival weekend. It ended up being so much more.
We were supposed to attend the B93 Birthday Bash all day Saturday and Sunday.  However, we weren't planning on going early in the morning.  We wanted to arrive in time to just see some headliners and have a few drinks.  By the time we packed up the car with coolers and snacks and hit the road, we heard on the radio that the parking lots were full and they weren't allowing any additional concert-goers into the park.
So, now what?
We had the entire weekend cleared for this.

We ended up having one of the best weekend I've had in years. My parents, Steve and I all decided on not letting the full day off go to waste, so we headed on out to the John Ball Zoo in Grand Rapids.  It was the perfect day for it.

After our afternoon with the animals of John Ball Park, my dad had an excellent idea to go to Grand Haven for pronto pups and to walk around the boardwalk.

We ended the night with a bonfire and pizza.  We also brushed the dust off our old tent, and Steve and I camped out in the backyard for the evening while watching movies and giggling like children.

It was the most perfect day.  I'm still hung over from the joy of this past weekend.

The Detroit Zoo

Better late than never.. am I right?

I'm a little late on this post, but it's only because I left my camera in Steven's car the weekend we met up in Detroit (which just so happened to be over a month ago).

Last month, Steve and I met up in Detroit.  For those of you who don't know, Steve is from Ontario, Canada and lives part-time in Nashville as well.  We do get to see each other often, although not as much as I'd like.  I'm super lucky that when he drives back and forth, he stops in Grand Rapids to see me and stay as long as he can.  Anyway... during our visit to Detroit we decided to wander around the Detroit Zoo.

This was an interesting experience and probably the first time I went to a zoo during the middle of winter.  It was desolate and FREEZING, so we obviously took every chance we could get to run indoors to a warm exhibit.

We could not, for the life of us, get a decent picture in front of the penguins.  It's my favorite exhibit of all time and I wanted to get a decent shot of us in front of the cute lil' guys.  We just kept making faces at each other.

Aside from the cold temperatures and the lack of animal exhibits due to the winter months, it was a fantastic day.
