One Crazy Saturday

This past weekend was so much fun. Much like a majority of my weekends, it was packed with family gatherings and music-related events.
On Saturday, it was off to Muskegon to kick off the day by celebrating my great grandmother's 100th birthday! What a blessing to share in such a special day. I can't even imagine the things she's seen and experienced in her century of life. She's still in great health and high spirits. Her positivity and generosity is contagious, and I am very fortunate to have her in my life. I'm glad the whole family was able to come together and celebrate. Katelyn and I are extremely fortunate to have such a large and loving family.

To make the day even more special for our great grandmother, Steve sang her Happy Birthday and then played You are My Sunshine. She was singing along and smiling.
(How AMAZING is he, too?!)

After the birthday celebration, we all headed over to Grand Haven to celebrate the 1st birthday of Country 93.1 WMPA. They have been such huge supporters of Steve's journey through the Texaco Country Showdown, so it only made sense to go show our support for them.

They were broadcasting live at the barbecue, so Steve played some songs for the listeners in west Michigan.

Then it was back to Grand Rapids for a night at the Back Forty Saloon, again!

Bring on the 3-day weekend! Thank you, Labor Day!

Laura

Wilcox Park

Katelyn and I had another lunch meetup today. We went to my FAVORITE soup shop in Grand Rapids, Uncle Cheetah's. It was Katelyn's first time, and I'm pretty sure she shared in my joy of their phenomenal soups. It was love at first taste.
We took our orders to go and headed to a nearby park for a little picnic. The weather was grey and gloomy, but there's something beautiful about a calm and cloudy day. Wilcox Park ended up being our own hidden treasure. It was so desolate and there were so many old tangled trees surrounded by greenery.

Alphabet Weekend Warriors: Letter I

This weekend we have linked up with with a fabulous group of ladies to participate in something called Alphabet Weekend Warriors. We were assigned the letter I to use for a fun filled day of things.
This was our Mission (I)mpossible:

We started out by heading to Grand Haven to play like the kids we are at the Imagination Station.

After the fun in the sun, we made an Ice Cream stop at Temptations:

After our ice cream date, we headed over to Harbor Island to do some exploring:
We even partook in some illegal activity (shhhhh)

...yep, we're pretty immature. ;]
And to finish off we thought we would leave you with an Iced Coffee recipe for these last days of summer:

What you'll need:
French Press//Whole Bean Coffee (Katelyn prefers organic)//Bean Grinder
For the Ice Cubes:
Fun shaped trays//Your favorite creamer

Here's what you do:
Grind the beans so that your grounds are coarse//For every 6oz of coffee you want to make, use 2tbs of your ground coffee//Place grounds in the French Press first followed by boiling water//Stir all together and place the top on//Let sit in Fridge over night//Push down the filter in the morning and voila! Delicious & Easy Iced Coffee
Katelyn spruced up her Iced Coffee with some adorable heart shaped frozen Bailey's creamer.

Needless to say, Mission: (I)mpossible was a success and we had so much fun! Thanks for stopping by!

xoxo, L & K

We still have spots available for Alphabet Weekend Warriors! e-mail Kallie @ butfirstcoffeeblog@gmail for your chance to join in on the fun!

This Week's Happenings

I can't seem to keep my days straight as of late. Whenever I have plans on weeknights, I feel like I lose all my bearings and am in dire need of a hardcore siesta. That being sad, it's been a pretty radical week so far. Tuesday I had my friend Whitney come to GR for Rock the Rapids since I got VIP tickets from work. It was great to be outdoors in the hot Michigan weather at the ballpark and enjoy some large beers while kicking back in the suite watching Brett Eldredge and Thompson Square.
Wednesday night Steve got into Michigan and had a gig at Louie's Bar on the west side. He was featured during their open mic, and our friends Tieka and Eric came out. Eric joined in playing some tunes.

I am ready to bring on the busy weekend ahead, and hopefully get some rest, since this week has been so crazy. But I must admit, everything is better when Steve is here.
