Ducks & Pups

Lately I've been really stressing about  my new apartment and having a hard time settling in. I'm not sure if it's the annoying traffic-jammed commute to work in the mornings or the crime-infested condensed area that started as of late, but I'm still doing my best to adjust. I need to keep my chin up for now and remember that it's the little things in life that make the difference. I want to do my best to live and breathe a simple life.
At least I can walk out my back door and inhale the crisp air and feed the ducks. And, of course, I always have Syrus to come home to, which is a constant blessing.

I don't know what I ever did before this handsome boy came into my life. He is the best part of coming home from work after a long day, and he loves me unconditionally even on his naughtiest of days.
We took Syrus on an ice cream/puppy play date a couple weeks ago with a friend and her puppy, Murphy. Typical Sy was trying to play the alpha male card the entire time.

Keep life simple.

Monster and Me

An ode to my furry best friend:

I don't know what I'd do without this monster in my life. He's a constant source of happiness and always manages to make me giggle uncontrollably, even when I should be furious at him. Living alone can often be boring and lonely, but Syrus makes it completely tolerable. He's a blessing and I can't imagine life without him.

Dog Days of Summer

With all of the chaos of moving this past week, Steve and I took some time out of my weekend to play with my pals in the backyard.

Gemini's grumpy face just kills me. Her attitude is just adorable. I love her. :)

Wining and Dining at the JW Marriott

It has been quite an eventful week over here in the Relatively Offbeat household!

On Monday I (Katelyn) went to a wine dinner with Alex at six.one.six. The featured wine maker was Mas De Daumas, and they paired SEVEN different wines with four courses and a light dessert to finish. It was so much fun and I love seeing Alex so much in his element. Here are a couple photos of the food and us at the wine dinner!

And the happy couple :)

Thursday night Laura and I took a short little road trip to our hometown in Muskegon to drop off Syrus for the weekend and she worked on her friend's invites while I pinterested.

This Vine clip shows only a portion of how obnoxious we really are.

We are hoping to make up for our lack of posts as soon as possible.
Until then, have a fabulous week!

Love is a Verb

I had a Valentine this year.

Last  year on February 14th, I spent the day at work, picked up some Sushi on my commute back home, picked up a bottle of red, plopped my butt on the floor and enjoyed my fancy dinner for 1 while watching the Red Wings.  But don't get me wrong, I didn't complain.  That's just how you roll when you're single.

Tweet from last year.

But this year was different.

I still worked all day.  But instead of takeout and hockey, Steven had dinner cooked and ready for me when I walked in the door.
(The hockey comes later.. I got us Red Wings vs. Predators tickets for next weekend.)

Red Wings vs. Nashville Predators.

Came home to this. :)

Syrus wanted some.

Dinner was delicious.  But now that I know he can cook, he has no idea what he's in for.
;]

I followed up by making him some V-day desserts.  Cupcakes and chocolate covered strawberries!

The evening was absolutely perfect.  It was so nice to have a Valentine this year.  I forgot how nice it can be to share days like this with someone special.
And I don't just mean Steven.  Syrus was just as much my Valentine this year. :)

Hope you all had a great L-O-V-E day!

xoxo,

Laura
